The Truth about Over-the-Counter Acne Remedies – Part II

Published by admin on Tagged Acne Tips, Acne Treatments

In the first part of this article, we introduced two active ingredients which may be present on most of the acne products that currently are on the market, these are benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid (Aspirin), the main function of both is to clean and remove dead skin to prevent the blocking of the pores, but they could cause skin irritation or dry skin, if this happens, it is recommended to reduce the dose or consult an expert.

This time we will talk about the best active ingredients in exfoliation and other less known, in this way we will be able to take more accurate choices when buying over the counter products or treatments for acne.

Exfoliating Your Skin
This can become somewhat mechanical using a towel, sponge or chemicals. The most common exfoliators agents are salicylic, and glycolic acid, they help with the peeling of the outer layer of our skin to remove dead skin and preventing the blockage of the pores. They can also help unblock pores stuck.

Other Ingredients
After the most common ingredients there are other less common but equally effective in combating acne, they are Resorcinol and sulphur. Resorcinol can help with the peeling of the top layer of the skin and removing dead cells that clog the pores, Resorcinol can be used in conjunction with sulphur. Sulphur can also be used in conjunction with the benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid.

Cleaning products for the skin can be used once or twice daily, while the creams and lotions can be applied whenever necessary.

Another treatment that is quite effective for certain individuals is  4% Niacinamide in creams or gels. The Niacinamide is also known as Nicotidamine which is a form of Vitamin B3, this a very useful treatment because it produces fast results and does not irritate or dry skin, many people comments that with the 4% Niacinamide they have removed their acne in just 7 days.

Well, I hope that all these tips will help you in choosing the best treatment or product for your problem, but you have to have always in mind to visit the dermatologist to clarify any doubts you may have.
